I’ve been absent these past few weeks due to the busyness and general hectic stress that is Honours year. As a result, it seemed only fitting that my first proper post back be a bit of a university Q&A!
What do you study and where?
I’m currently half way through a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History at the University of Adelaide. My thesis is on Scottish history, specifically Highlander identity and national narratives in the nineteenth century.
How many years have you been studying?
This is my fourth year at uni. Last year I completed my three year Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) in History and Politics.
When did you decide what you wanted to study?
I worked out by the end of year 11 that I wanted to study history at uni rather than music. I then worked out during my exchange last year that I want to specialise in Celtic (particularly Scottish) history.
Do you plan on continuing with further study?
Short answer: yes. Long answer: yes, but I want to take some time off to work a bit first and learn some Celtic languages!
So what job will a history degree get you?
What I want to end up doing work-wise really depends on where I’m living. If I’m in Scotland, I’d love to work for the Historical Society as a researcher or a tour guide. If I’m in Australia, I’d really like to work for DFAT.
Let me know if you have any other university related questions, and I’ll do my best to answer them!
